SE Sunday Parkways Event

This past Sunday featured another successful event for the Friends of Linus Pauling Community Garden. Between our SE Sunday Parkways event and the Buckman Neighborhood Association picnic the previous Sunday, volunteers for FLPCG were able to get 253 signed postcards from the community—more than half with comments—for Mayor Adams. The cards, a call to arms to the mayor asking for his support of our efforts, are being sent to his office at the rate of approximately one dozen per day. Soon, a letter will also go to his office asking for an interview with some of our Friends.

(Garth speaks with a community neighbor and supporter of FLPCG
as she signs a postcard of support to be mailed to Mayor Sam Adams.)

As always, none of this would be possible without our many generous volunteers! Many thanks to Mallen for organizing our presence at both the Buckman picnic and SE Sunday Parkways events. Additional thanks to the numerous members who selflessly volunteered their time to staff both events! And finally, thanks to Jim Sarjeant at Daytona Trophy for donating all of the t-shirts for our volunteers, as well as free stickers to hand out to the public during our events! Between the buttons, the stickers, and our t-shirts, our group has forged a standout identity in the neighborhood! And, having a cohesive identity as we start to canvass the streets for neighborhood support will, hopefully, aid in our efforts.

(Portland Community Gardens was kind enough to allow
FLPCG to share their tent at the SE Sunday Parkways Event.)

Finally, if you were unable to pick up your t-shirt at the SE Sunday Parkways event, please be sure to contact Garth, as they are currently in his care.
